Conclusion
In this topic, we made an effort to explain why modularization should have a positive effect on organizational productivity. Our simulations were inspired by the assumptions of hypothesis 7b - that modularizing a structure helps it deal better with process failure, and makes it more amenable to modification. In the process, we drew conceptual parallels between the spread of infectious disease in a residential community and the propagation of informational inconsistencies in an industrial organization.
Of course, the abstract framework underlying our simulations has many alternatives. Although useful for demonstrating the main concepts in question, it could be improved in a variety of ways to better represent real-world organizational networks.
